Texas documents: 1-2 business days. Out-of-state documents: approximately 1-3 weeks, varies by state. Federal or embassy level: approximately 3 weeks.

What is an apostille?

An apostille is a one-page document issued by authorities at the state or federal level certifying the authenticity of a document issued in the U.S. before the document can be accepted by government agencies and businesses overseas.

What type of documents require an apostille?

Common documents needing an apostille or authentication for use in a foreign country include birth and death certificates, marriage certificates, divorce decrees, school transcripts and diplomas, and powers of attorney.

How does the process work?

Depending on which country the document needs to be presented in, it falls into one of two categories. If the destination country is part of the Hague Convention Treaty, the document receives an apostille from the state or federal authority. If the destination country is not part of the Hague Convention, the document instead goes through embassy legalization, which requires notarization followed by authentication from the Secretary of State, the U.S. State Department, and the foreign embassy.

If your document falls under the Apostille process, we will obtain the Secretary of State Apostille certification or the U.S. Department of State Apostille in Washington DC as necessary. Document Legalization Process Very similar to the Apostille stamp process, Embassy legalization is an alternative method of authenticating a document, used for countries that are not members of the Hague Convention Treaty. In most cases an Embassy Legalization will require the document to be authenticated by the notary, followed by legalization from the Secretary of State, the US State Department and the embassy of the foreign country to which the document will be sent.
